Informatics Studio was asked to detail our process for visual messaging in critical social programs for ICOGRADA’s annual international conference, Design for Social Impact. Using an environmental narrative, Todd Cavalier, Executive Director, was selected as one of the keynote speakers and presented the firm’s methodology, involving a structured examination of how images and language work together to form meaning and strategically communicate urgency in critical social programs.
We have developed and tested our principled approach through many years of design and development for international strategic communications programs involving social development for clients that include the UN Development Programme, US Department of State, USAID, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, SNV-World, and others. Domestically, we have designed and developed programs for clients that include the National Institutes of Health, the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, US Department of Education, US Department of Justice, as well as many leading non-profits and socially responsible corporations working on social development.
The National Council for Science and the Environment is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the scientific basis for environmental decision-making. NCSE specializes in programs that foster collaboration between the diverse institutions and individuals creating and using environmental knowledge, including research, education, environmental, and business organizations as well as governmental bodies at all levels.
Informatics Studio has designed and developed a number of programs for NCSE, including their flagship website. We developed visual messaging and comprehensive design for the site that included multiple section introductions strategically highlight broad areas expertise ranging from oceans to forests, agriculture, industry and urban environments.
The Informatics Studio team worked with the State of Pennsylvania Watershed Commission to design an environmental compliance brochure that addresses environmental impact across the state.
The brochures are designed to communicate the essential value of protecting and promoting woodland watersheds as core components of environmental sustainability. The program had an international audience that required our design and development of series of animated web banners highlighting the interdependency of global environmental systems.
